Made-to-Measure Kitchen Cabinetry

For those who love the details

Permits, timelines, costs, the process and every question we are asked, one card at a time. If you would rather talk it through, a designer covers all of it at the appointment.

In short

How we work

Cabinet makers: the phrase people search for. What we are is the designers: every carcase is measured and specified at our Alexandria showroom, built to order in Germany to your room's dimensions, and installed by our own team across Northern Virginia, Washington DC and Maryland. Made to measure, with factory finishes and an itemized specification instead of a shop estimate.

The answer

Are you cabinet makers, or something else?

Something else, and we say so up front. Aksesuar Design is not a woodshop: we are the designers. Every carcase and front is measured and specified at our Alexandria showroom, built to order by Nolte in Germany to your room's dimensions, and installed by our own team across Northern Virginia, Washington DC and Maryland. You get what people want from a cabinet maker, cabinetry made for one room, with factory finishes and an itemized specification instead of a shop estimate.

Before you start

Who measures the room?

Our designer, on site, after the consultation at the showroom. Those measurements go into the specification that production builds to.

Before you start

Is it really made to measure?

Yes. Every carcase is specified to your room's dimensions rather than picked from fixed widths, which is what lets cabinetry meet a ceiling, a window or an out-of-square wall without filler panels.

Before you start

Can I see and touch it first?

Yes. The Alexandria showroom has full-size kitchens on the floor: open the drawers, test the hinges, compare the fronts under real light.

Before you start

What if I only want the cabinetry?

We design, specify and measure for it, and your contractor installs it; or our own team does. Either way it is built to order in Germany to your room.

Before you start

How long will it take?

A few months from the day the design is released, with a delivery date you plan the rest of the project around. A complete kitchen takes about five months from signing.

Before you start

What does it cost?

Cabinetry alone starts at $15,000 for a small kitchen, $35,000 for a medium kitchen and $55,000 for a large one, itemized line by line. In 2026 our completed kitchen projects ran from $42,000 to $190,000 and up, with most between $90,000 and $145,000, as total installed values.

What you would ask a cabinet maker, answered by us

The things people want from a cabinet maker are real: cabinetry for one room, a person who measures it, a finish that lasts. Here is how each one is delivered here, and where we differ from a shop.

Cabinetry is built to order and cannot be returned, so the design and the itemized specification are approved on screen before anything is ordered.

Cabinet maker, or designer

Cabinetry made for one room

A shop builds to the measurements its maker takes.

Our designer measures the room, the services and the clearances, and every carcase is specified to those dimensions, so cabinetry meets the ceiling, the window and an out-of-square wall without filler panels.

Cabinet maker, or designer

Who builds it

The shop, by hand, in its own workshop.

Nolte, in Löhne, Germany, to the specification written in Alexandria. We do not run a woodshop and do not claim to.

Cabinet maker, or designer

The finish

Paint or lacquer applied in the shop.

Factory lacquer, anti-fingerprint matte, real wood veneer, solid-wood framed fronts, metal-look and glass fronts, each one on the showroom floor to handle before you order.

Cabinet maker, or designer

Hinges, drawers and interiors

Whatever the shop stocks.

Hinge and drawer systems you test in the showroom, inner drawers, pull-outs and pantry systems, itemized one by one.

Cabinet maker, or designer

Lead time

Set by the shop's queue.

Production, shipping and installation run about 16 weeks from the day the design is released, with a delivery date you can plan the rest of the project around.

Cabinet maker, or designer

The price

A shop estimate.

An itemized specification: every carcase, front, countertop, handle and internal system its own line. Cabinetry alone starts at $15,000 for a small kitchen, $35,000 for a medium kitchen and $55,000 for a large one.

Cabinet maker, or designer

Who installs

The maker, or your contractor.

Our own team, the people who drew it; or we supply the cabinetry alone if you have your own contractor.

How the project runs

01Consultation

We review your room, your storage, your architecture and your budget at the Alexandria showroom, in a private design appointment, complimentary, with no time limit, and agree what the cabinetry has to do.

How the project runs

023D Cabinet Design

Layout, elevations, proportions and finishes come back as photorealistic 3D, so you approve the cabinetry on screen before anything is committed.

How the project runs

03Specification and Quote

Every carcase, front, countertop, handle and internal system is itemized, so you can see exactly what you are paying for and adjust before release.

How the project runs

04Built to Order in Germany

The approved specification goes into production in Germany, made to your dimensions, with a delivery date you can plan the rest of the project around.

How the project runs

05Measurement and Fit

The same team that designed the cabinetry checks the site and installs it, so nothing is lost in a handoff between the drawing and the tools.

How the project runs

Timeline for a complete kitchen

From the day you sign, most kitchens take about five months: 2 to 4 weeks to settle the last details, then 16 weeks for production in Germany, shipping, installation and the tile work.

For cabinetry on its own, production and delivery typically run a few months from the point the design is approved and released. You receive a schedule once the design is final, and we plan the rest of the project around that date.

The cost

What made-to-measure cabinetry costs, and what moves the number

Cabinetry alone starts at $15,000 for a small kitchen, $35,000 for a medium kitchen and $55,000 for a large one. These figures are for custom cabinetry only. The final price depends on kitchen size, cabinet configuration, materials, internal storage and selected details. Countertops, appliances, construction and installation are priced separately unless included in the proposal.

What moves the number

The size of the kitchen

The starting tiers are $15,000 for a small kitchen, $35,000 for a medium kitchen and $55,000 for a large one. The number of carcases is the first thing that moves the price.

What moves the number

Fronts

Soft-matt lacquer, solid and veneered real wood, metal-look and mirror-glass fronts sit at different points in the range, and every one is on the showroom floor to compare.

What moves the number

Interiors

Inner drawers, pull-outs, dividers and pantry systems are itemized one by one, so you can see what each adds.

What moves the number

Hardware

Handles, or handleless fronts with a grip channel, and the hinge and drawer systems behind them.

What moves the number

Installation

Installation by our own team is its own line in the proposal, next to the cabinetry. If you have your own contractor, we can supply the cabinetry alone.

What moves the number

A complete remodel

In 2026 our completed kitchen projects ran from $42,000 to $190,000 and up, with most between $90,000 and $145,000. Those are total installed values, not cabinetry prices.

Directions to the showroom

Asked often

What makes kitchen cabinets truly custom?

Custom means the cabinetry is planned and manufactured for your room rather than assembled from stock sizes. Carcase widths, heights, and depths are set to your walls and ceilings, interiors are planned around what you actually store, and the fronts, finishes, and hardware are specified rather than picked from a short menu. Nothing is trimmed with filler panels to cover a gap.

Asked often

How much do custom kitchen cabinets cost in Northern Virginia?

As a planning guide, cabinetry for a smaller kitchen starts around $15,000, a medium kitchen around $35,000, and a larger kitchen around $55,000. These are cabinetry starting points, not the cost of a complete renovation. Countertops, appliances, and construction work are quoted separately so you can see what each part of the project costs.

Asked often

Can I buy cabinets without a full remodel?

Yes. If you have your own contractor, we design and supply the cabinetry and can install it or hand it over. In-house installation is our first choice, not a requirement.

Asked often

What is the design consultation?

A complimentary session with a designer at the Alexandria showroom. There is no time limit, and you leave with a direction for the kitchen.

Asked often

Which areas do you serve?

We work throughout the DMV: Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland. Our studio in Alexandria sits at the center of the region, so most of it is a short drive away.
